Olivo Barbieri's photography has the ability to make the real world look like a model. Because, yes, these pictures are of actual places not cleverly constructed models. Barbieri uses tilt and shift lenses to change the depth of field and this combined with stark contrasty images create the effect. Born in Carpi in Italy in 1954 Barbieri has shot a range of cities that include Las Vegas, Shanghai, Rome and New York, he has also produced a great series on waterfalls.
